Deck structure completed

Today we finished all the subfloor and joist work on the deck. Its going to be great when its finished. The view is amazing. We placed all the rim board on and squared everything up then put hurricane straps on every joist. We spent about 4 hours today.

Deck Construction (March)

Jake Woodhouse and I started building the deck today. First we put some felt on the side of the garage and then nailed the rim board to the side of the garage. We then determined the hieght of the posts. We cut them and started installing the posts and securing them by bracing them to the garage. We then placed the beams on top of the posts and secured them. I started adding joists on top of the beams after Jake had left. So far so good!

Oops

While compacting the dirt around the sonotubes for the footings I drove the bucket right into the back of the garage! Duh!!! It took me about 45minutes to repairt it. I guess I am not ready for hire on the excavator yet...

Pier Footings and more demolition!

Demolition was once againg the name of the game. I had to remove alot of concrete and dig some footings. I first got the excavator with a jack hammer attachment and busted up the old steps and porch on the west side of the house. In addition I also busted out the remaining retaining wall and driveway. Then a bucket with a thumb was put on and in one day I took 9 trips to the dump with my friend Terry's Bishops dump truck.

Once this was done I dug 7 holes for pier footings for the decking around the garage. each had to be 4' deep. Once the footing molds are in place and the sono tubes were placed on top of the footing molds I covered them up.
